In a shocking piece of news, a pilot lost his life in a sad occurrence that happened on September 18, 2022, when a jet crashed into the ground and burst into flames. The collision happened on the third lap of the Jet Gold Race championship round at Reno Stead Airport in Nevada. Two aircraft raced across the Reno Rockies to start the competition, according to reports. But eventually, one of the aircraft flew dangerously near to the ground before crashing into a field. A pilot was killed when it abruptly exploded into a fireball.

Reno Air Races Crash

Reportedly, the announcer said, “Oh no, oh no,” and then the plane immediately skidded to the grassy lane. His co-host at the Jet Gold Race then said, “There was a problem, we’ve had a tragedy here, Thomas,” in response. After that, a referee raised a red flag, and the tournament was put on hold. According to NBC News, the Aero L-29 Delfin crashed in Reno on Sunday afternoon, according to a preliminary statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.

After the disaster, the pilot passed away there and then. At a news conference, Reno Air Racing Association CEO and President Frederick Telling confirmed the tragic incident, saying, “All other pilots landed safely.” The Racing Association Board extends its deepest condolences to the pilot’s family and friends along with the race fans. However, the pilot’s identity has not been disclosed yet. Several sources claim that the pilot is 61-year-old Aaron Hogue who sadly died in the tragic accident.

Paying tributes to the deceased pilot, a Line Service Supervisor at Sacramento International Airport, Matt Moore, wrote RIP Aaron Hogue. Adding further, Moore said that he raced his heart and out and added that he may continue to do so in the vast blue skies. In the meantime, The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office tweeted, “The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is responding to a plane crash near 13945 Red Rock Road that is connected to the Air Races. Please keep out of them.”

Additionally, it stated in another tweet, “One person has been confirmed as dead as a consequence of today’s jet crash at the Reno Air Races by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives from the WCSO and the Medical Examiner’s Office are presently investigating the scene.
